Braised Short Ribs

For the longest time I was intimidated by short ribs. I am here to tell you, they are so easy to cook and absolutely delicious. My favorite way to cook short ribs is braised in the crock pot. Ribs are full of flavor and have a great beefy taste. Here is my go to recipe.

Braised Short Ribs


  • 3 Short Ribs
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/4th cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tbs beef tallow or butter
  • 1 onion
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 cubes beef bullion
  • 10-12 sprigs fresh thyme a small bunch
  • 3-4 sprigs fresh rosemary (optional)
  • 2 bay leaves (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups beef broth


  • Salt & pepper all sides to taste
  • Sprinkle and rub on flour
  • Melt 2 tbsp. of beef tallow or butter
  • Brown 45 sec on each side
  • Set aside
  • Add onions, carrots, & bullion
  • Add everything to a covered dish or crockpot
  • Add enough beef broth to cover ribs
  • Cook 2-3 hours in the oven at 350, or 6-8 hours on low in the crockpot.
